About Kristy

Home has always been my favorite place.

It’s where we build our lives, raise our families, make memories with friends and neighbors, and create the sense of community that makes a city feel like home. That’s one of the reasons local government has always mattered to me. The decisions made by a City Council help shape the places where people live their everyday lives, and serving Maple Grove has been a privilege I have never taken for granted.

I was first elected to the Maple Grove City Council in 2016 and was honored to be re-elected in 2020, receiving the highest number of votes in both elections. Over eight years, I had the opportunity to work alongside fellow council members, city staff, residents, businesses, and community partners to help guide one of Minnesota’s premier communities.

Serving on the City Council meant much more than attending meetings. It meant listening to residents, supporting local businesses, attending neighborhood meetings and community events, and working alongside our police officers, firefighters, city staff, volunteers, and civic organizations. Those relationships gave me a deeper understanding of our community and reinforced my belief that the best local government begins by listening.

During my time on the Council, I served as Council Liaison to the Maple Grove Planning Commission, the Maple Grove Citizens Advisory Commission, and the Center for Innovation and the Arts Advisory Council. I also represented Maple Grove on the Suburban Transit Association throughout my eight years on the Council, serving as Vice Chair during my final term. Today, I continue serving on the Community Center Expansion Task Force, helping guide one of the largest community investments in our city’s future.

Professionally, I bring more than 20 years of leadership experience in communications, strategic planning, and public engagement. I earned both my Bachelor of Science and Master of Healthcare Administration degrees from the University of Minnesota. Those experiences strengthened the skills I rely on today: listening, solving problems, building consensus, and making informed decisions.

Although I chose not to seek re-election in 2024, I never stepped away from Maple Grove. I continued attending major Council work sessions, stayed informed on important issues, and remained engaged in our community.

When an open Council seat became available, I gave the decision careful thought. I believe my experience allows me to contribute from day one, and I would be honored to once again serve the community that has given so much to me.

When I’m not working or attending community events, you’ll usually find me with my 15-year-old Tibetan Terrier, Watson. Whether we’re walking through the neighborhood, enjoying one of Maple Grove’s beautiful parks, or stopping to visit with neighbors, Watson has become a familiar face around town and has happily campaigned alongside me since 2016.
